Potty training watch - does it really help potty train your child?

A potty training watch Potty Training Watch, like other potty training aids, can give your child a real boost in motivation during the potty training process.

I have personally toilet trained 4 children, both boys and girls, and believe me, sometimes it's the oddest of things that can keep the training process moving forward.

Potty training watch - how does one work?

These are simple watches that vibrate, light up and/or make music according to an assigned time you set.

So if your daughter needs to go sit on the potty in 1 hour, you set the watch and forget about it.

If you are wearing the watch, you won't have to watch the clock. If your child is wearing the training watch, you won't need to nag.

Potty training watches Potty Training Watch are especially helpful if you are potty training and have a child who is just "too busy" to go to the potty chair on a schedule and is having accidents.

These watches are also helpful for special needs children. You can also use a potty training watch for all sorts of other activities.

Do you need to remind your child
  • when it's bedtime?
  • when it's mealtime?
  • when it's time to go home?
  • when it's time to go potty (of course!).
  • when it's time to pick up.
  • when it's time to be done with the TV.
  • when it's time to come get a hug!
Really, you can use these helpful training watches for all kinds of activities and certainly for a wide range of ages of children.

Potty training watch - how to use one for success.

First of all, assess the personality of your particular toddler or preschooler. Does he like toys of this nature? Does she like playing grown up? Does he have other toy watches he enjoys? These clues help you know if a potty training watch Potty Training Watch would be a useful tool for your child.

Secondly, this is a tool that I would use after the initial potty training has passed. For the first go-around with potty training, I would personally help my toddler know when to sit on the potty and not depend upon a training watch.

Toddlers have so much to learn when they are first toilet training. It's confusing enough figuring out what your body is telling you and what you need to go do and when to do it; it just helps if Mom or Dad are right there coordinating those first few attempts.

After that, though, assuming you have some potty success and your child understands what he's supposed to do when he sits on the potty chair, I think the help of a potty watch can be invaluable. My kids got very tired of me always reminding them "time to go potty" ands when you see the signs of this in your child, that's the time to use the potty watch.

Part of the attraction of wearing a potty training watch for your child is that she knows grown-ups wear watches and this helps with her "big girl" image of herself.

You can help this process along by asking occasionally, "what time is it" as you look at your watch and let your child chime in with an answer (even a made up one will do). It's a good idea to talk about a variety of activities when you are checking the time; don't let the watch be the potty tyrant!

Potty training watch - the keys.

Potty training watches work best when used in conjunction with a comprehensive potty training plan. Obviously you can't just strap the potty training watch on your child and expect them to be trained!

Take note of your particular child's needs during the potty training process. Maybe he understands his body cues very well, but he hates stopping playing and is resistant to your gentle (or not so gentle!) reminders to use the potty. A potty watch helps in this instance because it takes the responsibility off of you and puts it where it belongs - on your toddler or preschooler.

Like any other potty training aid, don't overuse. If your child is tired of the potty training process in general, maybe you both need to take a break for a few days. That's okay.

In fact, you can mark on a potty training reward chart when you want to resume potty training and put the training watch in a "special" place for the big day. Involve your child in this and you'll build some anticipation to restart the training progress.

Thinking of toilet training as a process and not just an event will help you deal with the inevitable accidents and potty training issues much easier.

And remember, you will be teaching your child many things over the years. Potty training is just the first of many times you will be working together.

So make it positive and enjoy yourself - even with toilet training ups and downs.
